Release v0.3-alpha, Windows and Ubuntu support

Tiny update here!, as the title says now the game runs on Windows and Ubuntu, natively, that is without need of an emulator. Of course as an alpha release this is experimental-territory, but from here is only a matter of fix any issue that may arise. And the future is even brighter as the new engine is written in plain C using SDL2, meaning that support for new platforms should be relatively easy.

Gameplay:

  • Native support for Windows and Ubuntu.
  • Improved keyboard input in DOS, repetition rate no longer depends on the OS.

Under the hood:

  • A brand new engine to support the new platforms.
  • Removed unused code in the DOS engine (a test at initialization, an interruption, a hack to handle the keyboard).
  • Unified executable in DOS.
  • Major updates on the SDK, hopefully more legible.
  • Palettes load at runtime.
  • And of course tiny fixes over the code :).

What is next?

An inventory with items that can be used in battle. After two months of ‘low level’ writing (a new engine) I feel that the gameplay deserves more love. And maybe revise the sprites and backgrounds, I never drew both with a cohesive style.
